Purple Series Digilog LSZH

Purple series digilog AES/analogue installation cable LSZH

The Van Damme Purple series Digilog range comprises 1, 4 and 8 pair 110 Ohm balanced audio cables. Electrically and mechanically these cables are based on the already proven Green series AES/EBU multicore range, but are sheathed with Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) materials. LSZH jacketed and insulated cables are increasingly called for in installations, especially in public buildings and new construction projects, and the Digilog range will carry analogue and/or AES digital audio. In addition its inherent low capacitance makes it ideal for other data applications such as RS422, RS485, midi, timecode and DMX512.

Materials
Van Damme now use a higher purity oxygen free copper for the conductors - Ultra Pure Oxygen Free Copper. The use of this material further improves the ‘solderability’ and conductivity of the conductor resulting in faithful and transparent signal reproduction.

Foam skin polyolefin is used for the conductor insulation. This special insulation is made up of individual pockets of inert gas suspended in polyolefin, resulting in a low dielectric constant (2.3) and most importantly low capacitance. The skin refers to the outer layer of the insulation, which forms during the extrusion process. This skin is harder than the layer of insulation below it ensuring that the conductor is well protected. The dielectric constant of foam skin polyolefin remains stable over a wide frequency range, essential for transmission of digital signals. Other relevant properties include good stress and temperature resistance.

Pairs are twisted together with a tinned UPOFC drain wire and shielded with an aluminium/polyester foil screen. The 150% coverage method employed ensures that the pair is fully screened and that the drain wire remains in close contact with the conductive aluminium foil allowing interference to be effectively taken to ground.

The screened pair is then jacketed with a special LSZH material SHF-1. This polymer satisfies the requirements of the IEC regulations for the installation of LSZH telecommunications cables on ocean going vessels. For the 4 and 8 pair multicore types, the requisite number of cores are numbered appropriately along their length and are laid up and oversheathed with an SHF-1 LSZH outer jacket.

Applications
• Installations in public buildings and other sites requiring LSZH materials
• Suitable for analogue or digital audio transmissions
• Also suitable for data applications such as RS422, DMX and midi transmissions
• IEC approved LSZH polymer for installations requiring validation
