Reduced OD Console Series Reduced OD UP OFC 1 pair console cable Van Damme console cable was developed in conjunction with 2 of the UK’s best known mixing console manufacturers. The brief was to provide a high quality oxygen free copper installation cable with the smallest possible overall diameter for use in internal console wiring looms. The resulting cable is ideal for this application, and for any high density wiring where size and weight are a consideration, for example in complex patching systems and outside broadcast vehicles.
Polypropylene (PP) is used for the conductor insulation. This material has a higher temperature rating than most polyethylene insulation giving excellent resistance to ‘shrink back’ during soldering. Its inherent hardness makes it ideal for the thin wall insulation used by Van Damme in their analogue audio multicores. This thin wall insulation ensures that the overall diameter of these cables is kept to a minimum without compromising electrical performance. Electrically it is very similar to polyethylene with a low dielectric constant (2.25 for PP solid types) and high stability across the lower frequency ranges associated with analogue audio signals. The conductors are twisted together with a tinned UPOFC drain wire and shielded with an aluminium/polyester foil screen. The 150% coverage method employed ensures that the pair is fully screened and that the drain wire remains in close contact with the conductive aluminium foil allowing interference to be effectively taken to ground. The overall jacket is a flexible special PVC compound optimised for use with thin wall coverings and offers an appropriate compromise between strength and suppleness given the restraint of the low overall diameter required. Applications• High density wiring for patch panels and internal equipment wiring looms • Also suitable for weight sensitive applications such as OB vehicles • Suitable for general installation use
