THE LEGACY
As the first music production and sound engineering school in the UK, Spirit Studios has been helping young creatives through their career for the past forty years. Based in Manchester, Spirit Studios began as a commercial recording studio in 1980 and provided rehearsal and production space for many local bands such as The Stone Roses, Simply Red, Happy Mondays and The Smiths.
In 1984, Spirit Studios made the transition from a commercial recording studio to education. By continuing to invest in its students, staff and facilities – which includes Van Damme cabling to ensure the perfect sound – Spirit Studios has been at the forefront of music education ever since.

Tom Aston, head of technology at Spirit Studios said:
“Our facilities are industry-leading and are one of the main reasons students choose to study with us year after year. We choose equipment and software that they’ll encounter across every stage of their career, whether that be in smaller venues or the most renowned recording studios around the world. We’ve chosen Van Damme cabling for over 15 year now. It’s great to work with, durable and simply a quality product. It’s also in use at many of our industry partners, so we know the next generation of sound engineers and music producers will be using Van Damme throughout their careers.”
Alex Grigore, BDM at VDC Trading commented:
“It’s been a delight working with Spirit Studios over the years and a real privilege to help such an esteemed educational establishment give their students the opportunity to get to grips with first-class equipment, software and consoles that they’ll use in the real world. It’s great to see so many graduates enter the music, television, film and radio industries after their studies.”
